Hello,
Welcome to the onsiteTECHS video channel.
This is our first video. And I thought I’d take the opportunity to answer a customer’s question about
how to find out exactly what your Apple MAC model number is, as well as your serial number.
From the desktop, click on the Apple icon in the top left hand corner of your screen. Then select
“About This MAC”.
This will start the “About This Mac” window, which gives you some basic information about your
MAC.
From this one, we can see that I’m currently on an Apple MAC OS X computer, running version
10.7.2. It has some information about the processor, and the amount of system RAM that I currently
have installed.
At the bottom, there’s a button that says “more info”. If we click that, we get a more detailed screen
with system information. The beauty of the new version that comes with OS X Lion, is that it tells you
in plain English what MAC model you are on, as well as the build date. We can see from this one,
that I’m on a MacBook Pro, 13 inch, which was built in Mid 2009. Now again it tells me about my
processor and system memory, but it also tells me about my graphics card and most importantly my
serial number. It also has information about the operating system once again.
In the top left hand corner of this screen there are four tabs. We’re currently on the overview tab – if
we click on the Displays tab, we are given a little more information about the display, including
resolution. Then if we go into storage, we have a nice view of our hard disk, how much free space
there is, total capacity of the hard disk and a colour-coded graphic of what file types are using our
hard drive space.
The last tab is titled “memory”, which gives us our total memory installed, and also tells us how
many memory modules are installed and in which slots.
There are also some links in the top right hand corner for support information and contact links for
Apple
In this video we discussed how to find the system information for your Apple MAC computer.
